Forme Life

Designed by Fuseproject for Forme Life. A workout device for the home that blends seamlessly into the home environment. Unlike most workout equipment, it isn’t an eyesore and doesn’t have to be placed in a dedicated space within the home. When it’s not being used as a workout machine, the arms rotate and bend behind the housing, making it a sleek mirror on any wall within the home. Most people don’t have extra room in their homes to turn into a gym so the magic of this device is that it functions as a sleek mirror when it’s not in use.

When in use, the mirror turns into a touch screen, where the user can navigate different exercise classes with different trainers, based on the user’s preference and fitness level. In the UI, the user can navigate and see their progress throughout the weeks. There are also sensors and cameras built into the mirror that track the user’s form and corrects it.

We collaborated closely with mechanical engineers and the digital UX designers to make it as clear as possible for the user to adjust the arms positions, based on the exercise they are doing. There is a clear correlation between the physical adjustment buttons and on-screen UI. The vertically positioned pill button corresponds with vertical movement and the horizontally positioned pill button corresponds with the horizontal adjustments.

We thoughtfully designed a variety of accessories for FormeLife that can be attached to the cable ends or be used as stand-alone. The accessories share a common design language of soft, non porous forms and smooth surface treatment.

Critical user touchpoint for the workout system is the quick release. A lot of thought and exploration went into figuring out the best experience for the user to attach different accessories to the cable ends. When the quick release is not in use, it sits securely in an integrated nest on the arm-end.
